this is by far the song of the week/month... I'm in love with it for some reason.

The band name is The Veronicas and they are twins from Australia.  check out my favorite of their songs... "Untouched"

romantic song of the week....kind of

OK...so I think it's a romantic song even though she sings about being pushed away bitterly.  

I think the second reason I love this video is the CHEESY soap opera that accompanies it.  :)  So enjoy one of my favorite musicians -- Me'Shell Ndegeocello.... "Bitter"

old navy and target ads..

I'm always amazed by how TV spots have the opportunity to embed their brand into your psyche.  I'll have to do a post on random ads that have changed advertising...but as of today I'm focusing on Target and Old Navy.  Two brands that have seen pretty radical changes of their focus audience over the past five years.  I'm a huge fan of Target's ads....and they always seem to make me smile.  Here are some of my favorite of theirs:

I think what I'm most struck by is the editing and the engaging reaction it gets from the audience watching it.  The first ad is very creative in the split screen and the regular people vs. everyday household items.  Cute for sure.  The second is good for branding and being creative with showing how "Target" is everywhere.  It's in everything you have.  The third clip is an example to how beautiful women can be done up and edited in a way that's quite fascinating.  They play with time a lot in the editing... going from slow to fast, matching the music.  I'm a big fan.  

Now the Old Navy ones.... 

What we have here is two completely different spots done extremely well with both music, character, attitude, placement and form of text and fonts, etc.  They were both done by the same agency: Mac Guff  which is quite a cool visual effects company.  I had the nice opportunity to talk with one of the creators over email regarding Film and the possibility of having an online Film Community and Class setting that I would help run.  I like the two ads because of what they make you feel.  The editing of the shots combined with the music is actually quite powerful.  The first one is just plain exploitation in a way of... "because we have Old Navy swimsuits, we're cooler than you, hotter than you, and have more fun than you."  I liked it.  Ha! It made Old Navy look.... (dare I say?!): Cool.  The second one is fascinating in that they have a minute length one that goes into each character's story a bit more.  It's available to watch on their website and I'd recommend it.  

JUST my two cents for tonight! :)

now I LOVED Goldfrapp's crazy disco CD.... yes I did.... but I think I love their folky/alt CD even better!! here's one of my fav songs/videos from the album.... enjoy the weirdness!!

was i an american teen?

I got to go to an advanced screening of this film last night... it was... interesting.  I wasn't that impressed to say the least.  Given that it's supposed to be a Documentary, it didn't quite live up to the standards I was expecting.  Some story lines seemed forced and edited down to a very specific stereotype.  If you want to see the rich, straight, white lifestyle of teenagers.... be my guest.  I feel actually bad for these kids as it feels like they were exploited.  Now, as they are two years after graduation are being forced to be held accountable for their actions in High School.  I know I was a freakishly good kid in HS... but I wouldn't want to recount it all on film! I would have been the "Geek" as I was super involved in Marching Band and Theater!  :)  ANYWAYS... go see it for yourself and let me know what you think... I'm just happy I was on the VIP list and didn't have to pay! :)

kenna - out of control

so I was sitting in my FAVORITE movie theater of all time (the Alamo Drafthouse) watching my favorite movie of the summer (Batman).....when the Alamo did their special trailer of their upcoming events.  All I knew was the song was AMAZING.... 

I had NO idea who sang it...so Shazam to the rescue!!

-I'm in LOVE with YouTube video's of little kids/babies singing.... anything... I mean really...

-That Asian little kids are cuter than White little kids.  So if I ever have children, they need to either look like mini-me's (hilarious no?) or be Asian.  I'm what you call picky about my kids.  NOT their race....just their cuteness.... nothing is worse then seeing a family and the kid is fugly.
